I had an opportunity to facilitate a sustainable solutions workshop for kids and young people on a Sustainability Day at the Point Cook Pop Up Park event at the beginning of this year. Thanks to my amazing friend and an event organiser who invited me to be a part of this activity. To facilitate the workshop, I prepared a simplified version of sustainability content to start a conversation with kids and young people at the event.
I thought I could share these posters I created using a Canva design website. I think the content from these posters could be helpful in starting or guiding a conversation.
I selected six sustainability topics that I thought relate to everyday lifestyle of most kids and young people with a reference to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. The sustainability topics that I chose included both social and environmental. Each poster provided a board general knowledge about a particular sustainability topic, statistics, fun facts and a question for further discussion.
The topic that I chose were:
Sustainability and sports - Of course, sports have to be one of the topics!

Inclusive communities - We meet people from diverse cultural backgrounds, therefore, building an inclusive community is important.

A transition to net zero - Renewable energy will be a significant solution for this transition. We are trying to rely less on coal and fossil fuel as the source of the energy.
Reducing food waste - Do not underestimate the amount of household food waste!

Conflict resolution - Solving all issues peacefully might be an idealistic hope. However, we should educate kids and young people about a creative, non-violent, and diplomatic way to solve an agrument.
Sustainable fashion - Do we need to buy new clothes every time the season changes? Can we use the cardigan we bought in the second hand clothing store from last year?
Please feel free to use these posters/content as a tool to start a conversation with kids and young people. There are much more interesting details and facts awaiting to be explored in each topic :)
